PERMISSIONS

Permissions at Highways Art Gallery An exhibition of work by Linda Besemer, Diana Deaugustine, Sherin Guirguis, and Olga Koumoundouros

Permissions highlights new works by four innovative contemporary artists: Linda Besemer, Diana DeAugustine, Sherin Guirguis, and Olga Koumoundouros. These accomplished artists each have conceptually and formally contrasting practices, encompassing sculpture, painting, and photography, yielding visually distinct works. Yet these artists are united in that their respective practices continue a dialog about materials, bodies, and objects that Eva Hesse helped formulate and inspire many years ago. Permissions intends to provide an engaging testimony to Hesse’s far-reaching influence on artists working today, contextualizing her as a canonical art historical figure whose innovative practice gave permission to generations of future artists. Permissions is organized by Tucker Neel, an artist, writer and curator in Los Angeles (tuckerneel.com).

Highway’s gallery will host Permissions from September 24 – October 18, with an opening reception on Saturday, September 25 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. This exhibition runs concurrently with Meditations: Eva Hesse, a performance written by Marcie Begleiter and directed by David Watkins. Meditations will run 3 performances on Friday September 24th-Saturday the 25th.
