My artistic practice uses tattoos as a form of everyday language to create a space for discourse on the body and its use as a canvas for sociopolitical expression. My strategy of tattooing without ink removes the emphasis from the conventional tattoo, instead focusing on the painful process of being tattooed and the extended period of healing. Value is displaced from a final object (the inked tattoo) to the time-based process of tattooing and healing. I explore the possibilities of using the body itself as a gallery, presenting ephemeral images which exist for a set period and no longer.
